why do they call it the funny bone?
as if there was only one spot on the body that hurts like that. they ought to call them the funny bones (or the not-so-funny, fuck that hurts bones).

uncle chris and aunt brenny are here, which is pretty damn cool since I like them alot. bebop will also be here soon (what else is new). packing so many people into this house just sucks.

medicines which take away the wonder of being a chemical boy (ie: inducing regular female cycles) suck.

not finding a house yet also majorly sucks.

and so does insomnia. X_X

random question of the day:
if you were a gamer and an artist and needed a new computer (and hated Vista) would you buy a pc or a mac? (ignore the price difference, considering the education discount offered by mac and their lovely payment plans)

Depends what software do you use for your art? Something like Photoshop works just as well on either Final Cut Pro not so much.

Also, rate the relative importance of gaming vs art. Is it 50-50, 20-80, 60-40 or what? PC's are better for gaming as many more programs work with them.

I generally use Photoshop, which seems to work much faster on Macs. Unfortunately, Painter doesn't.

Hmmm. I think it's probably 30-70 (gaming vs art), considering how much I like the Wii and could get away with gaming on it alot instead. And I think that if I removed the burden of Photoshop from my PC it might well still work as a gaming box.

I'd get a Mac, but it all depends on what games you'll be playing.
...you like Sims 2? =P

...I have an apartment here in VA. Wanna move in? ;)

Just kidding...although slow, a lot of really good games eventually come out for Mac (like Civ 4)

I've been thinking that's the best way to go.
mmm... Counter-strike (and other half-life bits), Left for Dead (assuming they ever make a pc version), Rise of Nations, Age of Empires...
I had to quit playing the sims. I got way too involved and the lines between reality and game were too thin for me. ^_^ heh.

sounds great... but I'd still have to commute to Charlotte for school. X_X

I know. :) yeah... this is also true.

In Danish it's called "Shock Bone" - I've always thought that made more sense.

yeah, I think that does make more sense as it never makes me laugh. although, I do wonder why no-one has ever seemed to notice that there are a couple other places on the body that "shock" you in the same way.

Perhaps because they're harder to get at, whereas your elbow is quite exposed? I don't know, I'm just guessing here.

*nods* an excellent point. I will have to do some research into that, because if it will run my games, then I think that solves my quandary rather neatly.

*HUGS*

Personally, I'm a PC-guy. It has been rare for me to sit in front of a Mac.

Annoyingly, I've been looking at Gateway tablet pcs, and they charge you an extra $99 to get XP over getting Vista. >_<

Oh, and they call it the funny bone because even though it hurts like a MF, you're still laughing at it. At least, that's been my experience.

You're stupid. The question was: why do they call it a funny bone when there is more than one of them?

:tee hee:

personally, I am too - but I've noticed (through using the G4s at school) that macs have serious performance advantages over pcs.

mmm. well - gateway is really shiesty for pre-built pcs anyways. you'd be better off buying a laptop through walmart. though personally, I'd check with local places like intrex first.

I get why it's called that - what I don't get is why they refer to it as a SINGULAR bone, when other parts of the body (such as the joint of the big toe and the foot) illicit the exact same sensation. so why not call them funny bones.

Ture, the Mac OS is much cleaner, less of a resource hog, than Windows. *le sigh*

The trick is that I don't want a laptop, I want a tablet pc that converts into a laptop. The only place I've seen them at an affordable price is Gateway's site.

Oh... missed that. I wasn't even aware that other joints besides the elbow caused the same kind of odd pain. 8-B

yup.

ahhh. well - to be honest with you, you get what you pay for. I understand pricing, but if you want the latest gadget, you're going to have to pay for it. and from what I've seen, in the tech/repair world, gateways have a pretty awful reputation.

lol. so you're saying you don't actually read what I write?

yeah... the joint below the big toe is one. I don't remember the others, but I've found a couple recently.

Yeah, I know that addage all to well. All I'm really wanting, though, is a tablet for the storing and viewing of my pdf collection, character sheets, and other such gaming things. To have them neatly stored in an easily accessible device like that would be so nice. Not to mention being able to turn the screen so I don't have to scroll up and down on the page to read the pdf. :)

Well, I read it, but I somehow managed to misunderstand the emphasis of your comment. Much to my embarassment... :|

I'm looking for a laptop right now myself, and am caught between macs and PCs. I definitely prefer PCs, personally. I have nothing specifically against Vista (I don't really like it more than XP, but when I've used it, I've had no huge problem). However, my biggest problem is that I'm looking for a CHEAP laptop. And while I don't have a problem with Vista, I have a problem with every company's 'value' option trying to push Vista on me with 512 of RAM. I would be annoyed if I had to run XP on that.

I'm actually leaning towards a Macbook right now, because after I configure a laptop to something that I don't think would have a big problem with Vista, they're CHEAPER. And I get a free iPod.

As for gaming? At that point, I'd just get a PC and find XP for it. If you don't have an extra copy lying around somewhere, surely you could find one somewhere.

yeah... I've been a pc person for pretty much forever... but I keep killing video cards and seeing huge performance issues because pcs aren't built to handle the heavy loads in photoshop that I tend to use. I've never used vista myself, but I keep getting questions from friends of friends about technical issues they're having with it - which makes me incredibly leery of using it.

yeah, that was a huge plus I was noticing - that I could get a macbook for about the same as the imac that I wanted, not to mention the free ipod.

yeah. I think if I just got a new vid card for my current pc and did all my art on my mac that this one would be able to handle gaming just fine; it's photoshop that's breaking her.

I'm not sure. I'd probably go for a PC since I'm been using them for over 10 years (after they made us change over to PC after making us use Macs all through middle school. That's Pamlico for you).

And I remember Ri once saying that you couldn't teach and old gamer new tricks...maybe that applies to PCs as well. ^^; *alughs nervously*
